“The only limits you have are the limits you believe.” — Wayne Dyer
Do you ever feel like you’re holding yourself back due to limiting beliefs ingrained in your thought patterns? It’s time to break free from these self-imposed barriers and unleash your true potential. In this article, we’ll explore the impact of core beliefs on our lives, discuss the latest research on the topic, and share a proven method to rewire your brain and overcome self-sabotaging beliefs.
Understanding Core Beliefs
Core beliefs are the fundamental principles that shape our identity, attitudes, and outlook on life. They can be positive or negative, influencing how we perceive ourselves, others, and the world around us. When our core beliefs are rooted in negativity, they can lead to rigid, all-or-nothing thinking, causing us to set impossibly high standards and view anything less than perfection as failure.
The Impact of Limiting Core Beliefs: Research Findings
Studies have shown that:
- Core beliefs develop in response to early or traumatic life experiences, often without our realization.
- Negative core beliefs about uncertainty, unrelenting standards, and others’ intentions are linked to anxiety disorders.
- Maladaptive beliefs predict depression, independent of stress.
- People with positive core beliefs are more likely to report post-traumatic growth than symptoms during challenging times, such as COVID-19 lockdowns.
The good news is that core beliefs can be changed. By identifying and re-writing limiting, self-sabotaging, and negative core beliefs, we can alter our thoughts and, ultimately, our reality.
Many women I have met through Rewired have reached this critical point—they seek us out because they know there has to be a better way forward.
A Proven Approach to Overcoming Limiting Core Beliefs
Here are three steps to help you overcome limiting core beliefs:
Offer yourself alternatives: When you catch yourself having thoughts that support a negative core belief, brainstorm alternative explanations, even if you don’t fully believe them yet.
Challenge beliefs with facts and experience: For each self-limiting belief, list all the reasons why it’s not true, including past examples of times you’ve proven those beliefs wrong.
Practice gratitude as an act of defiance: When negative core beliefs flood your mind, distract yourself by listing three things you’re grateful for.
Changing core beliefs is a challenging process that requires time and dedication. However, by consistently practicing the Rewired method, you can transform your thought patterns and unlock your true potential. Surrounding yourself with a supportive community of like-minded individuals can further enhance your journey towards a more positive, fulfilling life.
Are you ready to embrace your true potential and become the best version of yourself?
